The National Center of Technology Innovation for Fuel Cell (hereinafter referred to as the "NCTIFC") was officially approved for construction on March 21, 2021, with Weichai Power Co., Ltd. as the main body and jointly established by industry-related research institutes, colleges and universities, industry backbone enterprises and upstream and downstream enterprises in the industrial chain. At present, there are 16 co-construction organizations, including Weichai Power, Beijing Institute of Technology, Liaoning General Aviation Research Institute, Tsinghua University, Shandong Guohui Investment Holding Group, Shandong Dongyue Future Hydrogen Materials, Shaanxi Heavy Duty Automobile, Suzhou Foresight Energy Technology, Tongji University, Yutong Bus, CRRC Qingdao, Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, China Automotive Engineering Research Institute, China Automotive Technology Research Center, Sinotruk Jinan Power, and Zhongtong Bus.

Focusing on the key links of the innovation chain from science to technology transformation, NCTIFC adheres to the core mission of breaking through key core technologies and realizing the industrialization of major basic research results, focuses on the development needs of the fuel cell industry, strengthens research on the development strategy of the fuel cell industry, promotes breakthroughs in common key technologies of fuel cells, builds an industry innovation service platform to promote the deep integration of the upstream and downstream of the industrial chain, comprehensively improve the independent innovation capacity and sustainable supply capacity of fuel cell technology, and accelerate the building of the world's leading fuel cell technology research and development base, high-end talent training base, scientific research and innovation experiment base and strategic emerging industry cultivation base.

NCTIFC will focus on the "four aspects" of strategic goals, strengthen demand orientation and problem orientation, target the innovation needs of the overall development of the country and the industry, and condense the field layout and key tasks of the innovation center. Focusing on the fields of technological innovation and industrialization such as transportation, construction machinery, energy storage and power generation, NCTIFC will organize and carry out basic research on fuel cells, common key research, engineering applications, testing and evaluation, as well as the construction of scientific research conditions platform and the transformation of major scientific and technological achievements.
