The green and low-carbon transformation is extending from the production practices of individual enterprises to the entire industrial chain and value chain. As green factories undergo an upgrade to zero-carbon factories, manufacturing enterprises face more stringent requirements for carbon emissions control and carbon management throughout the production process.

On Aug. 16, the Weichai Digital Industrial Park received the internal combustion engine industry's first zero-carbon factory certification. That same day, the park hosted an event themed "Zero-Carbon Driven, Smart Future," featuring the certification award ceremony and the launch of a sustainable development initiative, during which the China Quality Certification Centre (CQC) awarded the zero-carbon factory certificate to Weichai.

A zero-carbon factory represents an advanced stage of a green factory. Based on relevant practices, enterprises must achieve net-zero carbon emissions through internal emissions reduction and carbon offsetting. Since its establishment in 2021, the Weichai Digital Industrial Park has set a zero-carbon goal, building a corresponding energy and carbon management system around these objectives.

Within the park, integrated applications of key technologies—including wind power, solar power, energy storage, hydrogen energy, and waste energy recovery—enable carbon reduction at the source, establishing a comprehensive management approach featuring carbon reduction at the source, carbon reduction in the process, and intelligent carbon management. Ultimately, the facility achieves 100% carbon neutrality through carbon credit offsetting Looking at this single-factory zero-carbon practice, Weichai's exploration focuses not only on adjusting its energy structure but also on establishing a robust carbon management mechanism. Meanwhile, Weichai is extending this approach further along the industrial chain and value chain.

During the event, Weichai, alongside an expert team from the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) and representatives of domestic and international partners, jointly launched a green initiative for sustainable development. This initiative covers five key areas: green innovation, green products, green operations, green services, and sustainable development. It spans various stages, including the product full life cycle, the green supply chain, and partnerships.

This also indicates that the scope of the green and low-carbon transformation is expanding beyond the enterprise's own production operations to the broader industrial chain and value chain. For a power equipment manufacturing enterprise, a zero-carbon factory is not merely a low-carbon practice at the production base level; it also serves as a tangible vehicle for advancing corporate green development.

Weichai's carbon management initiatives began in 2020. Since then, the Company was recognized as a national-level green factory and a leading enterprise in carbon peaking in China. It was also included in the 2024 Forbes China ESG 50 list, received the 2025 International Green Design Award, and completed the internal combustion engine industry's first carbon management system certification.

This zero-carbon factory certification marks another step forward in Weichai's green development practices. Moving forward, Weichai will continue to align with the national carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals, consolidate the achievements of its zero-carbon factory construction, elevate its carbon management standards, and drive the green transformation of the industry.
