Weichai China VI Power Challenges Extremely Cold Weather below 40°C

2018.01.30

How dare Weichai China VI engine bear the reputation of the “King of Power” if it has never been to Heihe or experienced the ice and snow of Hulunbuir in the severe winter?

When competitors’ “China VI products” are still on the drawings or in the laboratories, Weichai has chosen to head for Northeast China to make its China VI engine challenge the extremely cold weather at minus 40 degrees Celsius in the coldest season.

January 24 is the day of the Laba Festival and the seventh day of the fourth cold period (each cold period comprises nine days). At 5 o’clock in the morning of that day in Heihe City, Heilongjiang Province, the temperature above the ice surface of the Heilongjiang River adjacent to Russia was approaching minus 40 degrees Celsius, and Weichai engineers started the vehicle to record the operating data.

The low temperature test would last one month, comprising a large number of test items involving WP13, WP12, WP10H, WP7 and other models, featured by the full range of China VI power products.

The low temperature test for engines is very complex. There are more than 100 test items in addition to the most intuitive cold start, power performance, heating, and safety. Both the vehicle and components must be tested to ensure the product meets the requirements.

The experienced Weichai engineers are fully aware of the influence of low temperature environment on the engine and the vehicle. It is crucial for them to know how to choose a test location and to fully expose problems during the test so as to improve engine quality.

The vehicle with Weichai engine ran on the icy and snowy roads all the way to find the best time for low temperature test. At this time when it was chilly and frozen on the surface of the Heilongjiang River, an engineer personally demonstrated the scene of “throwing the water.” And the water became ice in the air, proving that this was exactly the temperature we needed!

The leader of Weichai’s “Extreme Condition” test team told the reporter that if the temperature can’t meet the requirements, the test can’t reach the limited condition and the verification will be incomplete, which may leave hidden dangers to the product. Therefore, the colder the weather is, the more enthusiastic the engineers are!

In addition to heading for Heihe, Weichai engineers also drove to Hulunbuir, Inner Mongolia, with even harsher and colder environment than Heihe. Another batch of gas engines has undergone even more severe challenges over there.

Someone says they are “Dancers on the Ice.”But they say that they are the “guardians” of Weichai engines. They are extremely strict and excelsior in every item of every test every day.

Sprawling on snow, lying on ice, installing equipment, replacing spare parts, collating data into the midnight…all the efforts are just for one thing – to create the world’s strongest power.
